Hadis e Kisa English Translation – Complete Hadith al-Kisa in English

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

The Hadith of the Cloak (Hadith al-Kisa)

Narrated by Fatima al-Zahra (AS), the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH):

My father, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), came to me on one of the days and said: "Peace be upon you, O Fatima." I replied: "And upon you be peace." He said: "I feel weakness in my body." I said to him: "I seek refuge in Allah for you, O father, from weakness." He said: "O Fatima, bring me the Yemeni cloak and cover me with it." So I brought the Yemeni cloak and covered him with it, and I looked at his face which was shining like the full moon on the night of its completion and perfection.

Not an hour had passed when my son Hasan (AS) came and said: "Peace be upon you, O mother." I replied: "And upon you be peace, O delight of my eyes and fruit of my heart." He said: "O mother, I smell a sweet fragrance with you, as if it is the fragrance of my grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH)." I said: "Yes, your grandfather is under the cloak." So Hasan approached the cloak and said: "Peace be upon you, O grandfather, O Messenger of Allah. Will you permit me to enter with you under the cloak?" He replied: "And upon you be peace, O my son and owner of my pond, I have permitted you." So he entered with him under the cloak.

Not an hour had passed when my son Husayn (AS) came and said: "Peace be upon you, O mother." I replied: "And upon you be peace, O my son and delight of my eyes." He said: "O mother, I smell a sweet fragrance with you, as if it is the fragrance of my grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH)." I said: "Yes, your grandfather and your brother are under the cloak." So Husayn approached and entered under the cloak.

Then Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) came and entered under the cloak. Then I, Fatima al-Zahra (AS), also entered under the cloak. When all were gathered, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) took the two ends of the cloak, raised his hands towards the sky, and said: "O Allah, these are my Ahl al-Bayt and my special ones. Remove all impurity from them and purify them with a thorough purification."

Allah Almighty then said: "O My angels and inhabitants of My heavens, I have not created any heaven nor any earth, nor any shining moon nor any bright sun, nor any revolving sphere nor any flowing sea nor any sailing ship except for the love of these five who are under the cloak."
